Just listened to the show. Fantastic! Some really good conversation there.
Yeah, Virginia was kind of a given for “worst state to drive”. (Your pronunciation was slow but spot-on, BTW.) It would have been nice to hear his opinion on the “best state (or country)”, though.
Regardless, I was hooked for the whole show. Lots of great topics. I agree with most of what Alex had to say about autonomous vehicles and what our future is going to be like with them around.
Alex’s advice against speeding on public roads is particularly interesting, partly because one might expect him to act as poster boy for the exact opposite philosophy. But he provides very thoughtful insight on how pointless it is. It truly doesn’t save enough time to balance out all the hassle that speeding involves. (Unless you’re trying to set a cross-country record, perhaps.)
Off the top of my head, I can think of a few major roadways in the Metro Detroit area that are perfectly timed for sequential green lights, but only if you’re going the exact speed limit. I have personally played leap-frog with other drivers who rush ahead and get stopped at the light. Because I never had to slow down, I pass them by and they work so hard to pass me again only to repeat the process.
I also 100% agree about the attitude-towards-cops thing. Not only are they human, but a lot of them are gearheads too, as naturally a lot of their job involves car-related things. They’re just doing their job, and if that involves my getting a ticket, it’s probably because I earned it. No sense in making them an enemy just because I decided to take a chance.
Anyway, great episode! I can tell your skills as a host are improving too.

You’re welcome! I’m sorry that I can’t tune in for every show, but it’s still good to see the show growing all the same.
